It is illegal to get an abortion in Ireland except in extremely narrow circumstances, where the life of the woman is compromised. Early medical abortion pills are on the World Health Organisation’s list of essential medicines and they are extremely safe to use. They work by causing the person to miscarry when taken in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. We believe that abortion is basic healthcare. Thousands of Irish people have miscarriages every year.
